ML570 Power Supply Configuration

I have two older ML570s that seem to randomly reboot for no apparent reason. Regardless, I have seen an error on start up that indicates the system configuration requires both power supplies present for the server to run. This kind of defeats the purpose of redundant power supplies. Does anyone know how to change this setting?

Thanks,
John

Re: ML570 Power Supply Configuration

hi

Power Supply : Two 450 Watt Hot Pluggable Power Supplies (up to three supported)

A third power supply is needed for redundancy.

I'm assuming is G1, is that correct?

Re: ML570 Power Supply Configuration

G1 is correct, but they do not have a slot for a third power supply.

Re: ML570 Power Supply Configuration

ProLiant ML570 Maintenance and Service Guide appears 3 power supply
look for 51 page

Re: ML570 Power Supply Configuration

Hi John,
The ProLiant ML570 server uses a hot-plug, 450-watt power supply. Only one power supply isrequired for each single, six-bay drive cage. The power supply must be located in the primary bay.A second power supply is considered redundant for a single hard drive cage configuration, but necessary for a two hard drive cage configuration.

From your description, it looks like that you have two six-bay drive cage installed and only one power supply installed?? Please confirm.

**When two hard drive cages are used, a
third power supply is supported as an option for redundancy.**

Bit confusing, when you say that you dont have a slot for the 3rd power Supply :-/

Prabhu

Re: ML570 Power Supply Configuration

Hi all,

Thank you for the replies. Upon further investigation it does have slots for three power supplies; however, the server is currently only configured with two. So I would have to assume the information provided pertaining to the drive arrangement is true. I will just have to limp it along for the next few weeks until our migration is complete. Thank you for the information.

Thanks,
John
