ML570 power protection module error
One of the processors sockets indicator lights is amber in color indicating a PPM error. (power protection module) What happens is that after the ML570 has been on for about 5 minutes, the server shuts down with a pop up message warning of overheating. We also tried shifting the processors around but it made no difference. If we disable Thermal Protection in the bios, the server does not shut down. But clearly this is not a good solution.
Has anyone encountered this problem before?

Re: ML570 power protection module error
PPM is Processor Power Module.
You have to change the failed PPM. In the mean time you can pull out one processor and the failed PPM and then the server sould be running without overheating.

Re: ML570 power protection module error
The PPM for ML570 G2 with CPU's from 1.4Ghz to 3.0Ghz is HP spare part number 266655-001.
Try partsurfer if you want to obatin it from HP.

I hope this helps,

Re: ML570 power protection module error
The problem is the PPM light was amber even when no CPU was in the slot, and would cause the Windows 2003 Server to shutdown due to a overheating indicator.
