Make spare member of Original RAID Array

After replacing a defective drive with a new Spare in our RAID5 configuration, we want to add this spare to the original RAID, so that it no longer act as a spare but becomes a permenant menber of the Array.
However, this procedure is far to be found...
Error ID # 274 is available.
Help would be very appreciated.

Re: Make spare member of Original RAID Array

The drive is already a member of the original RAID.

If the spare was not a hot spare, if you only replaced teh failed drive with a new one, then the new drive becomes the old drive.

If the drive was a hot spare in another position, teh RAID automatically rebuild on that drive and it is not part of teh original RAID but, if you move this drive to the failed drive original position, the RAID will rebuild again on the drive and this drive will become part of teh existing RAID.

Re: Make spare member of Original RAID Array

Hi Far,

Ensure that the replaced hdd is rebuilt. Once the disk is rebuilt and you want to remove the spare hdd from the array and add it to the array(expansion) than right click on the Array click on Spare management and uncheck the Hdd to be a spare. Once the Hdd is uncheked it will become available disk, than hilight the array and select the optin for array expansion and it will be part of the array and later you could extend the logical array.

Hope this helps.

Raj.
