Mapping Logical array drives to OS drive letters
I posted this in the Drive Array forum but got no response.. I'm hoping someone here can help me here.
I have a DL580 with 2 5300 Array cards in it. Attached to each 5300 raid cards are 2 drive shelves for a total of 4 drive shelves.
Each drive shelf is a RAID 5 array with 1 logical drive. So I'm presenting 4 logical drives to my Windows 2000 OS.
Now this server has been in operation for a long time and I was not the one who build it up. What I need to do is remove one of the drive shelves to use on a different server. I've already cleared off one drive and it's ready to be removed BUT how to I map the logical drive letter in windows to the logical raid drive?
I'm hoping there is an easy way and I'm just missing it..
Thanks for any help in advance...

Re: Mapping Logical array drives to OS drive letters
Go into disk managment and right click on each "drive". Select Properties.
On each drive will be a Port, Target and LUN
When you look at this:
Port will be the Controller number.
Target is the Array Letter (i.e., Array A, B, C, etc.)
So, if you have two arrays on each controller, Array A on your boot controller is drive C:
Drive D: is Array B
Drive E: is Array A on the second controller
Drive F: is Array B on the second controller.
You can determine the boot order from your bios or from the ACU.
Then, with the ACU, you can determine which disks it comprises by selecting the Array in the ACU and it will light up the disks. Look at the enclosures for which disks are flashing.
Does this help?
Let me know? -john

Re: Mapping Logical array drives to OS drive letters
F: Port 6, ID 4, LUN 0
G: Port 5, ID 4, LUN 0
H: Port 6, ID 5, LUN 0
I: Port 5, ID 5, LUN 0
5300 #1 - BUS 7, DEV 6
5300 #2 - BUS 7, DEV 7
One array controller is in PCI slot 4 and the other is in 5.
Neither one is the boot controller as we use the integrated controller for OS drives.
By using the device manager and showing by connection, I can find the 2 drives attached to each controller BUT they all show up as BUS 0 no port so I can't tell which is which...
