Maximum HDD supported for Smart Array 5i in one logical disk

Any one know what is the maximum HDD to form a RAID 5 using Smart Array 5i (in external enclosure) in ONE logical disk?

I know SA5i spec stated max HDD supported is 21. (related link : http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/servers/proliantstorage/arraycontrollers/feature.html)

But no info on the logical disk matter (like max number of logical disk, max HDD per logical disk).

Re: Maximum HDD supported for Smart Array 5i in one logical disk

Thanks. For SA5i can support 14 HDD max to form 1 logical disk (using RAID 5). True or false ???

What is the maximum number of logical drives per SA5i channel can form?

Hi

The Smart Array 5i will support RAID data protection functionality on all internal drives and up to 14 external drives.

No idea on maximum no of logical drives

This follows the normal SCSI standards, so the max number of drives would be 28, but there are no servers with this controller which support 14 off each port (this is why the max drives isn't showing 28).

The max number of logical drives is 32 (look under the specifications area):

I would not recommend using a large amount of drives in the same raid 5 though. This is not a high performance controller and you may see performance issues with a large amount of drives.
The truth is out there, but I forgot the URL..
