McAfee HIPS Causing 410i controller lockup 0x12

Greetings,

I have been battling an issue with my systems for the past two days.

A little background, I have 7 servers (Proliant DL360 G7)  that I am working with.    Of the 7, 2 of them have an issue with the McAfee Host Intrusion Prevention Service where the system will blue screen.

The blue screen error is:

*** Hardware Malfunction

Call your hardware vendor for support

NMI: Channel Check / IOCHK

*** The system has halted ***

On boot i can see my 410i controller reports error:

"1719-Slot 0 Drive Array - A controller failure event occurred prior to this power-up. (Previous lock up code = 0x12)"

I found a McAfee KB article acknowledging an old known issue:

https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB68985&cat=CORP_HOST_INTRUSION_PREVENTION_7_0&actp=LIST

My initial firmware level on the 410i controller was 3.66 I have updated it to the latest 5.7.

I tried the workaround to Disable No-Execute Memory Protectionin the server BIOS

I also updated my bios to the latest of 2011.05.05

I am able to boot the system normally with the service disabled the second i start the service it blue screens.

Any assistance is appreciated.

hi,

Did You update the Host Intrusion Prevention ?

Please check in BIOS, if the Disabled No-Execute Memory Protection was saved.

Here is the HP advisory. It's almost the same like the McAfee one that you found.
