Memory Increase on ML350 G3

We are increasing our memory on our ProLiant server from 512mb to 2gb. Is it just a case of taking out the 512 and putting in the 2 gb module (the 2gb is a single module) or does anything need to be changed in the BIOS.

Re: Memory Increase on ML350 G3

Lee, The ML350 G3 non-array model comes with a single 512MB stick and 3 empty slots. This sounds like what you have. If you want to upgrade to 2GB of RAM I would suggest purchasing the 1GB RAM option kit HP# 287497-B21 (~650.00) and the 512MB RAM option kit HP# 287496-B21 (~277.00).

The 2GB RAM option kit (HP# 301044-B21) retails for 1580.76. As you can see if you go this route you will save ~650.00 dollars and still have 1 slot left open.

as far as changing anything goes, no. Simply shutdown the server and install the RAM. As always if you are taking the server down for maintenance I would suggest upgrading the PSP and Firmware.

Re: Memory Increase on ML350 G3

You don't need to do any change in the BIOS.
Note: when you use single memory module in ML350 G3 you "discard" memory interleaved.
If you use two 1 Gb memory modules you can improve performance (at least in theory) by memory interleaving using.
