Memory Installation

I have been experiencing problems installing new memory into a Proliant server I have picked up. I am aware that this model only allows 60 or 70ns, gold contact SIMMS (non EDO?). I have the right ones to use, but after trying to install them, the system only detects the embedded 16Mb. Do I have to manually configure the memory, and if so, is there a 'howto' somewhere to do it? I have seen where to do something like edit memory settings in the configuration, but I always thought new hardware could be automatically configured, and plus it looks complicated.

Re: Memory Installation

I have had some troubles myself installing new RAM in this monster and from what I have found so far there are two things you need to be careful of
1) RAM in these severs always has to go in as a matched pair, so you need to install two of the exact same type of chip for every upgrade
2) I don't think that the mother board will allow you to mix RAM speed
that is to say you cant mix a 60ns set of chips with a 70ns set

Re: Memory Installation

You can mix 60 and 70nsec memory on slow speed/one proc. systems.
You also need memory with parity checking.
This kind of memory is fairly rare.
