Memory configuration on DL580 G7

I am trying to configure memory upgrade on a DL580 G7. The quickspec and the DL580 G7 user guide both say that memory should be installed in identical pairs. But if I use Sales builder or any other HP configuration I can configure 5 or seven or any odd number of Dimm.
Who is right and who is wrong? any idea?

I would rely on the quick specs and the dl580 G7 user guide more than a webapplication not specificly built for just the DL580 G7
