Migrate to RAID ADG
We just got DL 380 with 12 drives cabinet and configured it to RAID 5. Recently we found out that there are a lot of expansion plans for this server. The question is is it possible to migrate to RAID ADG from RAID 5 or server need to be rebuild. The cabinet attached to MSA 20 Controller.
Thanks in advance

Re: Migrate to RAID ADG
ADG is nothing but Raid 1+0 or it is called as raid 6. Yes you can do that however the migration will take 15mins for 1 gb. so it is better to rebuild the server. Before you rebuild make sure you have the verified backup.
Thanks

Re: Migrate to RAID ADG
Check this matrix to see if yours support it:
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/servers/proliantstorage/arraycontrollers/feature.html
Here is the ADG web site, which has a lot of good information:
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/proliantstorage/arraycontrollers/adg/description.html
Here is some information you might find useful:
ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/products/servers/proliantstorage/arraycontrollers/Assessing_ADG_v_5_v_1+0.pdf
http://h200002.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00257511/c00257511.pdf
Check p. 2-5 of this doc for procedures:
http://h200002.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/UCR/SupportManual/TPM_283954-2/TPM_283954-2.pdf
Thanks,
Doug

Re: Migrate to RAID ADG
we tried this on an dl580 G2 Windows2000 with an msa1000 direct attached.
We migrated from Raid 5 (14x72 GB) to RAID ADG. We lost a lot of performance, the troughput was about 200 Mb/s, this is to slow. After a migragtion to (14x144GB) and RAID 5 we have a troughput about 1100 Mb/s.
