Mirroring different SCSI devices on ML530 G2 server?
I have Two hard disks on my server,It configured as MIRROR, One of the hard disk has failed. The Two HOT SWAP Hard disks are (72.8GB ultra 320 SCSI, 15K RPM ). Can I replace the failed disks with HOT SWAP (72.8GB ultra 3 SCSI, 10K RPM). If So is it slower the speed?
Thanks
Arshad

Re: Mirroring different SCSI devices on ML530 G2 server?
Hi Arshad,
You can actually repalce the drive with what you have right now. Regarding the spead, it shouldn't slow down the whole system. The 10K hard drive will run with that speed and the rust will run with the 15k speed.

Re: Mirroring different SCSI devices on ML530 G2 server?
If you replace a U320 15k drive with a U3 10k drive, it will cause your array to slow to match the speed of the least capable drive (U3 drive). The controller won't really slow the spindle speed of the drive on the 15k drive down to 10k, but will cause the drive to send the data at the same rate a 10k drive will.
The truth is out there, but I forgot the URL..
