Mixed SAS and SATA drives with E200i controller- is it possible?

I am about to buy a Proliant ML350 G5 with a E200i 128 MB Raid controller. We want to use 2 SAS drives in a Raid 1 array and 2 SATA drives in a Raid 1 array from the controller in the server and are getting 2 opinions from HP. One person tells us that it is not possible, another tells us it is.
Please can someone tell me which is correct.

hi

yes it's possible

you can use both drive cage-backplane supports both type of HDDs, controller support both types of HDDs so you can have both types in the same server but of course they can not be mixed in the same RAID level

Hello Stephen,

yes, there is no problem. SAS and SATA are using the same interface. A SAS controller can use SATA drives with a special SATA tunneling protocol.

But you shouldn't mix SATA and SAS drives wihtin an array. So you should create own arrays for SAS and SATA drives.

Hello!

We are already using E200i with 4 SAS drives. And we would like to add two sata drives. How can we do it?

I mean, do we need some additional hardware such as adapters, special cabeles ot something like that?
