Mixing RAM in your DL180?

A rather basic best practices question:

I have a Proliant DL180 G5 with 2 x 2GB modules, and a couple of HP 1GB modules laying around.
I know they're compatible, since they come from an identical server, but the question is mixing them. Is 6GB (2x2GB + 2x1GB) a supported configuration for the G5, and even if it is... would you implement it in a production server?

All modules are PC2-5300 DDR2, but they are from two different vendors (Micron and Hynix).

Sure you can mix the memory as long as the memory is compatible in the server, but the memory should be installed in pairs and matched for optimum performance. Check the following User Guide on Page 53 for more information:
