Modem Installation on Backoffice

Proliant ML370 PIII733, 256MB, 2 x 9.1GB HDD

I have installed MS Backoffice SBS 4.5 on the Proliant ML370 without any problems, the server ran okay for 2 months. Then one day it came up with an error when we tried to dial out with the installed external modem. We get the error " Port open" on the Com port B (Com 2) which the modem was connected to.

I did troubleshoot the installation and we found out that all the Com ports had dissappeared. We have since reinstalled the Backoffice twice and the server worked for another day, then the same thing happened the following day. We have tried to locate or reinstall the Com ports but no success.

What do we do ? We don't want to reinstall the 4th time without really knowing what is wrong or what is causing the deletion of the Com ports.

Re: Modem Installation on Backoffice

Make sure the ports are still enabled in hardware. If they are, contact Microsoft as this is probably a bug in SBS (doubt it's the modem or hardware).
