Move RAID/Disks from one server to another

Hallo

We have a HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen10. The RAID controller is a "HPE Smart Array E208i-a SR Gen10".

I think the feature is called "drive migration".

Is it supported in this configuraiton?

Thanks

Re: Move RAID/Disks from one server to another

It is drive roaming.

Make sure to move all disks to the same position. All disks must be healthy.

Hope this helps!

Hi Torsten

Thank you! Unfortunately, it did not work.

ILO did not show errors of the logical drives or the disks.

Both servers are DL380 Gen10 and both servers have the same RAID controller. Both servers were turned off.  We moved the disks to the same postion in the second server too.

When we turnd on the second server, it did not show the logical drives.

What controller is used?

Make sure the correct controller is cabled to the disk bays.

Make sure the firmware is current.

See user guide for more information.

Hope this helps!

Re: Move RAID/Disks from one server to another

Hi Marcel,

I have seem the same Issue at Gen10 Server.

This have worked for the last 20 Years, but now it seems to be History. :-(

I'm so dissapointed.

In the Past I did remove 1 Disk from R1 for Safty (as Emergency Backup) before doing crazy thing.

And Swap back in the same Server if something is happen.

Even this is no longer working. :-(

Also we see no Array Controller Information while the Server is booting.

Hopefully some HPE Employee reading this and can fix it for the Future.

Move arrays between servers on Gen10 works. The issue is with UEFI boot entries, as they don't follow the disks.  When moved, you can use F9 to check on the health of the array under System Configuration.  You will then need to select disk logical drive to boot from unde the One Time Boot Menu or under System Configuration - Boot Options - UEFI Boot Settings - Add Boot Option - Then pick the correct device and drill down to the correct .efi file to boot from and name the entry

On Gen10, during POST the array doesn't ID the logical drives, unless there is an issue with the array, such as you've pulled one of the mirrors to save as a 'backup'
