Move raid from one DL380G5 to another DL380G5
Last week we had problems with one server.
It has two raids:
Raid1: Operating System
Raid5: Data
It lost 2 drives in the raid5. I was not sure if there were problems with the backplane or something else. So I decided to move the raid1 (os) to our standby server, so I can check the hardware on the first server on a later time.
I put the raid1 disks to our standby server and started it. But the raid was not recognized. How can I tell the standby server that there is a raid from another server that it should use?

Maybe a stupid question. How can I configure the raid before connecting the hard disks?

Re: Move raid from one DL380G5 to another DL380G5
The RAID configuration is stored in the RIS area of each disk. Moving the drives from a Smart ArRay controller in one server to another is not an issue. The only time you might have an issue is if the server your moving the drives to has older controller firmware.

Hi,
if you have problems just boot the standby-server with the actual SmartStart-CD on (with the new harddisks plugged in) and
goto to the Array-Maintenance-Menu.
This should help to recognize the "new"
raid by prompting it to you.
good luck
