Moving RAID-0 Disk

Moving RAID-0 Disk

Hi,
I need to move a RAID-0 Disk (with data) from one DL580 server to another DL580 server.

This is how I want to do it:
-Load acu on server 1
-Delete the RAID-0 set in acu
-Moving the disk
-Load the acu on server 2
-Create a new RAID-0 set and save/finish

Will this do the trick? I'm not sure about first deleting the RAID-0 set. Data must be intact. I want to remove the disk in a good way.
Thanks in Advance.
Peter.

Re: Moving RAID-0 Disk

Hi Peter,

This what I have done when moving disks between servers that have the same smart array controller. There is no need to use the ACU to delete the arrays before moving the disks

1) Remove the disks from the Server make sure to note the slot/bay/scsi id numbers the disks where removed from.

2) put the disks into the same slot/bay on the other Server.

3) power on the server the array controller will read the drive configuration off the disks and it should find the logical drive and boot.
I have done this in the lab a lot of times and never had any problems.

Hi Tom,

This must be done when the server is down?
The disk is purely data (no OS/boot disk).

Thanks!

Re: Moving RAID-0 Disk

It's one of the advantages of HP SmartArray controllers that you can move drives between different servers - and even between different SmartArray controllers (e.g. from SmartArray 6i to SmartArray 641).

Re: Moving RAID-0 Disk

Hi Peter,

The Server must be powered down when you remove the disks from the drive bay
