Moving RAID arrays between servers with different controllers

Any tricks to moving intact a mirror or RAID5 array from one HP server to another with dissimilar controllers.

For example, a DL380, internal 6i with 2, 3 disk RAID5 arrays to a ML350 with a 6402 controller?

Anybody ever done this in real life?
TIA,
Gary

I have moved arrays from 6i to 6402 without problems.
You need to attach disks to new server when it is offline.
Also there can be an issue when this array is boot array and you want to boot from it on a new controller. On some OS-es I couldn't boot from it (SCO, for instance).

Basil right. It's well known Smart Array controllers feature... You can move drives between SA to any SA (even to MSA)

Hi Gary!

Follow these steps and you'll be fine...

Insert the 6402 in the server where youre Raid5 is present...

Load the 6402 drivers in the OS.

Move the Raidset and 6402 to the new server.

Go in to RBSU and verify that the 6402 is the boot controller.

I've done this many times, works every time.

Thanks, all. I'm feeling more comfortable about doing this!
