Moving Raid from DL380 to BL20p

I am moving my Terminal Server farm from DL380's to BL20p's. Some of the Servers are running 5300 controllers that use the cpqcissm driver, and I can add the ENum for the 5i in the Blades.
On other servers, I have 431's that use a different driver.
It won't let me install a driver for a controller that is not installed in the system.
I've tried:
-Right Click install .inf
-Hardware wizard
-Running the compaq driver .exe.

How can I get the cpqcissm driver installed on these servers so I can add ENum and make the services(drivers) bootable?

Thanks!

You might post this question in the MICROSOFT - 2000 forum to see if there is any way that W2000 will let you install a driver for a card that is not installed.
Otherwise you will have to temporarily install the card in order to install the driver.

Re: Moving Raid from DL380 to BL20p

Mark,

Here is a suggestion which might work for your 431 based systems.

Shut down your 431 equiped DL380.
Add a Smart Array 5300 into one of the spare slots in this 431 equiped DL380's.
Don't connect anything to the 5300 ports.
Keep the 431 disks attached to the 431.
Reboot

Plug and Play will let you load the new driver for the 5300 when it's seen.

Power down the server and remove the 431.
Connect it's cable to the 5300.
Reboot.

The 5300 will see the logical drives and reboot OK hopefully.
You now have a DL380 with 5300 so you should be OK after that.

I hope this helps,

Brian

You could use sysprep to prepare an image of the server, and at the same time add drivers for other raid controllers. Not a nice way, but should work.

Re: Moving Raid from DL380 to BL20p

I think what I'm going to end up doing it to install the 5300, install the drivers, and make them bootable.

1 question I have is, do I need to move the raid to the 5300 before I migrate the drives to the 5i? Or can I just add the Enum and make the service bootable?

Do I have to be on the controller to move, or just have the drivers loaded and bootable?

Re: Moving Raid from DL380 to BL20p

NO you do not need to move the drives.

Hover i have done something like that from Dl360G3 to Blade BL2pG2 and it worked fine for a month. After that month 1 HD was thrown out of the array. And the Smart Array searched for the HD on a different SCSI ID which exists in the DL360 but not in BL2pG2.
