Moving raid 1 array from one server to another

I have two ProLiant DL385 G2 servers on different locations. They both have HP Smart Array P400Controller.

Is it possible to move an existing Raid from one server to another without re-installing the OS and losing data? If so, what is the best way to do it?

Thanks,
D

You just need to move all disks that form that array and insert the disks on the same bays on the new server. The SmartArray will recognize the existing configuration and load it.

Re: Moving raid 1 array from one server to another

Hi Drago,

Drive array configuration information is stored on the Redundant Information Sector (RIS) of the hard drives and on the array controller NVRAM.
It allows a set of configured hard drives to be moved from one machine to another without data loss; again, the new array controller can read the configuration information from the RIS of the hard drives.

Rgds,
Phil
