Multiple event 129s after installing new 146GB Hot-Plug hard drives - HP PROLIANT ML350 server

Hello,

We are running an HP PROLIANT ML350 server in a Windows SBS 2008 environment.  Recently, we replaced one of 3 Hot Swappable Drives that are part of a RAID 5 configuration with a Smart Array E200i Controller.     The drive rebuilt successfully and seems to be working.  However, since the replacement there are multiple instances of the following  error in the System Log:

Error 129

Source HPCISSs2

Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort0, was issued.

I have researched this and  found in the HP Knowledge base document c03097038 that describes that this sometimes happens after reinstalling one of the very drives we used (146GB SAS 10K rpm 6 Gb 2.5" SFF Dual-Port Hot-Plug Hard Drive model HP EG0146FARTR).  The document stated that this has been found in Windows Server2003 R2 environments, but did not mention Windows SBS 2008.  The fix was to upgrade the controller firmware to version 1.88.  Our current firmware is 1.78.

Does this reported issue also apply to Windows SBS 2008 environments?  If so, is there an ONLINE ROM FLASH version of this firmware version available?

Thanks in advance.

Hi There,

Firmware link provided in the advisory (c03097038) seems to be the latest one specifically designed to address this issue. the file (cp015887.exe) contains online firmware for smart array E200i / E200 controller and applicable to all version of windows as I executed on windows 7 but didn't flash as I don't have E200i in my system.

Smart Array Controller Firmware Version 1.88 - Microsoft Windows Server

Another thing that you should consider is Smart array Controller driver to address this issue if firmware update does not fix the issue.

Hope this helps,

Thanks,
