NEW HOT PLUG FOR ML370???

Hi,

Easy question here, i have forgotten how to configure a hot plug to an existing raid 5 array to a ml370 (3 yrs old) running nw51.

Am i right in saying i would need to boot the server with the smart start cd or something????

Ta.

First make sure that your RAID controller supports drive expansion. Older SMART controllers without battery backed write cache don't do that.

There are two ways.

1. using ACU while server is down
shut down server, boot from SmarStart cd, run array configuration utility (ACU), expand the drive

2. using CPQONLIN.NLM while server is running
(hope I remember the NLM name correctly)
This NLM can be used to configure drive array and redundant NICs (for older NICs).

I've used method 1 several times.

I've used method 2 once and it worked sort of BUT: it did the drive expansion but Netware would go to 100% utilisation when somebody tried to access the logical drive and then hang. After the logical drive expansion was finished it returned to normal. All I had to do was to create a new Netware partition and add a new volume segment.

MAKE FULL BACKUPS BEFORE YOU TRY THIS.
