NIC Teaming and IP address

When installing 2 NICs, is there any significative difference in selecting both, clicking TEAM and giving an address to the team, OR installing them separately, each with its own "fake" IP, team them, and assign the final IP to the team?
This last sequence seems to be the only one working on one of our 5500 servers with 3 NC3120 (1 is for cluster intercommunication).
Other clusters works just fine.

Your second solution is the one I learned when I first learned NIC teaming. I have never been able to sucessfully short cut the procedure and just assign all at once.
