NW 5.1 console GUI will not load using switch box

We have a number of rack mounted servers. The GUI worked fine when connected to a non-compaq console switch box. The rack was rebuilt using a new Compaq console switch box. Now the GUI (started by the console command STARTX) will not run - it does not recognise the keyboard or trackball mouse. The error given is a corrupt xservrc file. How do I re-configure the servers so the console GUI will see the keyboard and mouse?

Did you update the firware on the switch. Hope this help

No firmware update, but servers built using the switch box work with the GUI. Even if I plug a keyboard and PS2 or COM mouse directly into the server, the GUI fails the the same error.
