Need advice - MSSQL on HP 2U server

Please some give me a good advice.
I need a best buy HP 2U server, Windows 2003 with MS SQL database.
Requirements: 1 QuadCore CPU (not too strong), 8 GB RAM, 400 GB disks with big I/O.
The most important thing is big I/O.

Re: Need advice - MSSQL on HP 2U server

this is worlds most popular family of server
you can see all possible specs for it here

just order controller cache 512 and cache battery too for raid controller

then for sql you can custom set read write on controller on the fly without restarting,,

managing this server is as easy as pie and it can report to you of issues via email etc , you can watch it post remotely with ilo 2 advanced pack, its just a licence , with out the license it will still report to you , but you cannot see it post and setup is a absolutely straight forward, and controllers on it are tested well and reliable.

Thanks.
You mean P410/512 controller with BBWC?
2,5" or 3,5" drives?
Is it better 4-5 146GB 15k drives or 2-3 300GB 15k drives?

hi biokovo

yes use P410/512 controller with BBWC? correct
use largest 2.5 capacity disks you can get ,
as they take less physical space,

thanks :)

You will get better performance with more spindles in your RAID configuration. I'd suggest 4-5 146GB drives over 2-3 300GB drives. Depending on the RAID level you select you might need 5-6 drives to get your 400GB of usable space
