Network connections disconnects\connects every 5 secs.

Hi all,

I have a customer who has a Proliant ML110 G2 server, everything has gone quite well over the past 2 years since I set it up. Two weeks ago PC's were failing to connect to the database located on the server. I noticed that the server's network connection disconnects then connects every 5 secs, the network card displays the red light and it is an onboard NIC. I installed a new NIC card thinking the original NIC had the problem, but the newly installed NIC was doing the same thing but less frequent. I have tried to update the NIC firm ware but the problem still remains. I'm starting to think it is the motherboard...

Hope some one has experienced this before and can HELP!

Have you updated the BIOS Firmware ?
Could you try a PCI Card ? a Different Cable ?

I have not updated the BIOS yet, do you know what the latest version is?

I have tried a PCI and a new cable, these have produced the same issue.

Since PCI card tooo is acting the same, i think its Firmware related.

Hi there,

Thanks for the link.

Would you recommend install all the latest Network firmware & Software-Network?

Also with regards to the Network Firmware, the server is using an Intel brand rather than Broadcom as specified in the list. Does it matter?

Hello Rey,

I would suggest going for 'only' the firmware first & check if that makes any difference.
Yes, Broadcom & Intel software/firmware are way different. It will only allow u to install the correct one.
