New HPL Ultra2 hard drives

Hello everybody!
Can we upgrade our PL2500 server with the new CPQ Ultra2 HDDs (for example p/n388144-b22)?

Re: New HPL Ultra2 hard drives

No, the Proliant 2500 will not accept Ultra-2 or Ultra-3 drives internally. You would have to go external in a storage system capable of handling the drives as well as getting a controller that would fully support those drives.

Re: New HPL Ultra2 hard drives

Thank you! And what about Wide-Ultra SCSI3 hard drives not listed in PL2500 QuickSpecs (p/n400739-b21)?

Re: New HPL Ultra2 hard drives

The Proliant 2500 has an integrated wide-ultra scsi-3 controller - any fast-wide, wide, fast-wide scsi3 drive will work.

Re: New HPL Ultra2 hard drives

A warning about use of the integrated controller, you won't be doing hardware based RAID. Use a controller (2DH, 3200, etc.) that supports Wide-Ultra SCSI-3 and hot plug drives of the same type. I'd recommend configuring a hot spare drive as well, but you only have 5 drive bays to work with on the 2500. If you need space there are 1" 18 or 36GB drives of this type available.
