New Hard Drive for Deskpro
I am trying to install a new Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 8 (30GB Ultra ATA/133) drive in a Deskpro. The drive is not recognized during the boot process. The system does boot, and Windows 2000 (booting from the CD-ROM) does recognize the drive and install on the machine. Windows will not subsequently boot since the hard drive is not used.
I believe a BIOS update is needed, but I cannot determine the model number as compared to the COMPAQ website. The machine is labelled as follows:
DPENM-P333/6.4/W5C US
COMPAQ SERIAL NO.: 6838 BZK3 J979
This is a Pentium II machine, previously using a 3GB drive.
Advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

Re: New Hard Drive for Deskpro
Enter the BIOS F10, under System Information look for the ROM family, most likely 686T3

Re: New Hard Drive for Deskpro
The information as to the BIOS identification was useful in that it allowed me to download and apply the correct ROMPAQ (for the 686T3). Thanks.
The drive is still not recognized. This computer is of an era where the drive limit should not be less than 32GB, isn't it?
