New Proliant ML 330 G2 won't boot Linux from the hard drive

Hello,

I have a new proliant ml 330 g2, no raid controller or anything fancy just scsi hard drives (3 of them) and a ide cdrom.

I have tried Redhat Linux 8 and 9, both of them cannot be booted from the hard drive and only can be booted from the floppy or cdrom.

I followed the directions in the linux install guide from hp/compaq site:

I set the bios to os type Linux then I used the smartstart cd to wipe the drives clean and then rebooted and booted with the linux cdrom, installed linux

When the computer boots and after it checks the scsi drives i get a message stating it's tries to boot from cdrom, then floppy, then hard drive c:

I know in the older compaq servers there was a need to install some sort of compaq partition but I don't know if i need to do that or even how since there is no mention of it on the smartstart cd or the linux install guide.

From the information you provide, the solution resides in going to the Proliant BIOS and changing the boot order, so it can boot from the SCSI disk. Right now, from your description, is set to this:

1. cdrom
2. floppy
3. C: (IDE disk)


It should be set to something like this:

1. cdrom
2. floppy
3. SCSI disk
