Newer Dual and Quad Gigabit PCIe NIC's in G6 proliants

I am looking to use the newer Intel Chipset NIC's in an older Proliant G6 DL380

For example, this card based on the Intel I350 chipset

652497-B21 HP Ethernet 1Gb 2-Port 361T Adapter

However, when I read the specs pages for this card, it says it is only "supported" in G8 and select G7 systems

It seems to me the reason it is not "supported" is because the newer cards are PCIe 2.1, while the G6 is PCIe 2.0

But that shouldn't matter...a PCIe 2.1 car will work just fine in a PCIe 2.0 slot.

The G6's I have were bought used and so they aren't under a support contract anyway and we don't intend them to be under "support" ever. We bought the G6's cause they are cheap used...only a couple hundred bucks and are a nice cheap upgrade from some really really old Dell's we have in the ship..1800, 1900 series poweredges

I just want to make sure I am not overlooking something and if I go ahead and buy the newer NIC's using the newer Intel network chipset that they will work normally/be recognized in the Proliant G6's in spite of

I will be running Oracle Linux 7.3 on these boxes

Thanks
