No Keyboard when booting to Smartstart

I am trying to do offline diagnostics on an ML370 G4. There is no OS or any controller cards installed. When SmartStart loads I have no mouse or keyboard. THe keyboard does work during post though. Any thoughts?

Re: No Keyboard when booting to Smartstart

Hi Karlo!
SOrry, they are PS2. I have tried two different keyboards and 3 different SmartStart CDs, just in case.

Re: No Keyboard when booting to Smartstart

There is no OS right now, this is basic hardware troubleshooting: no hard drives and no controller cards. We had lost our video at one point on this server (a production server.) We finally swapped the server out and are now trying to see if we have system board issues with it. I finally got the video to work and thought I would run HP Diagnostics on it. THe keyboard works during boot (I can get into the Bios, etc.) but once SmartStart starts detecting devices, the keyboard light goes off and it doesn't work. Makes it a little difficult to troubleshoot:)

Hi,

*...3 different SmartStart CDs, just in case."

Are they all the same release version or different and (as Karlo asked) what versions are they?

Re: No Keyboard when booting to Smartstart

Does it also go away when you boot the Firmware Maintenance CD?

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=397646&swItem=MTX-3d1aaa0b48c04b628789e598d3&prodNameId=3279717&swEnvOID=2023&swLang=8&taskId=135&mode=4&idx=0

Is everything up to the latest Firmware version?

Maybe try using the iLO port to see if there is any change?

Re: No Keyboard when booting to Smartstart

I will try booting to the Firmware CD, and clearing the CMOS.

Re: No Keyboard when booting to Smartstart

I tried both of your suggestions and then ended up where I started, with no video:)
I logged a case with HP Case Manager on the Web,a nd they are sending a replacement system board. Thank you for all of your ideas!!
