No SCSI drives detected on Proliant 6000 w/ MegaRAID 434

I've been trying for several days to rebuild a Proliant 6000 with a MegaRAID Series 434 Array Controller. I have created a simple RAID 0 array from the physical drives with the MegaRAID BIOS utility, and I have configured the system with the Smartstart 5.5.0 CD. I've even managed to load Windows 2003 Server. However, when I try to boot to the array, I get a "no drives detected" error message.

I suspect the problem has something to do with the system configuration settings. The primary controller is listed as the "Embedded - Compaq Wide-Ultra SCSI Controller (port 1)". I don't even know where this controller is. I only see SCSI cables going from the MegaRAID to the array. I'd like to set the MegaRAID (PCI adapter) as the primary controller, but the Smartstart System Configuration tool only allows me to enable or disable the card (or change the IRQ number).

Summary:

1. MegaRAID seeing SCSI drives
2. Windows 2003 Server CD seeing SCSI drives
3. Embedded - Compaq Wide-Ultra SCSI Controller NOT seeing SCSI drives
4. Result - cannot boot to SCSI drives

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to solve this problem?

Hi,

how about changing the boot controller order.

Embedded - Compaq Wide-Ultra SCSI Contoller is set to boot first. There are 2 other embedded SCSI controllers and the IDE controller. The MegaRAID array controller has no boot order options.

Hi,

If it is new installation and you can go with a system erase then you can try with that. But i am not 100% sure that will help you. Since it is not listing in boot controller order, which we need to move ahead with.

Tried that already... no change.

If we go ahead with disabling the internal controller under SCU and save the information and check again.

Looks like SCU is not detecting non HP Card. in boot order. :-(
