Noise

I have a PL 1600 and was wondering if it possible to make it run quieter? I have a ML370 at work and I know when I load "something" on it, the server runs quieter... I know very little about Compaq servers, etc.. hence I am trying to learn..

If you install the system management drivers then the fan speed will be controlled by software - making the system less noisy.

1. update BIOS
2. install Proliant support pack (OS drivers from HP/Compaq)
3. install Compaq Insight Agents

The version of BIOS, OS drivers and management agents should 'match' - if one of them is much older/newer than the others then you might get problems (up to server crash)

It could be that the P1600 doesn't support that feature. Unfortunately I don't have access to a P1600 so I can't verify that.
