Non HP SATA SFF disks on DL380G5?

Anyone have any experience on using non HP SATA SFF disks on DL380G5? Is there a size limitation? What specific disks have you found to work?

Hello,
why do you think of it? Price point? You have no support without HP drives...

according quickspec for your server - http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12559_div/12559_div.HTML#Storage - is 250GB SATA 5.4K max size, but it depends on your SmartArray controller...

The systems are out of support. We can add 2 third party drives and run raid 0 for less than a single HP drive.

ok, then - update array controler firmware to latest available and buy 1 biggist sff sata drive available and try. Generally, it should work.

Thanks Jan,

Do you know the link to the latest firmware for the P400?

Re: Non HP SATA SFF disks on DL380G5?

of course... (hp.com - support - drivers & firmware - type P400, choose link) ... http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=1157689&taskId=135&prodTypeId=329290&prodSeriesId=1157687тМй=en&cc=us
there are drivers for all supported system, firmware for all HP branded drives plus latest P400 firmware - 7.18, go ahead.

Using 6 pcs of 320GB 7200rpm SFF drives (Western Digital Scorpio Black WD3200BEKT 320GB 7200 RPM 2.5" SATA) in RAID6 on DL380G5 and P400 for about a year without a hitch. Running Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 with a bunch of virtual machines.

Re: Non HP SATA SFF disks on DL380G5?

Is there a MAX SIZE the P400 controller will support? I am thinking of adding 6 of the Seagate 750GB 7200RPM drive in a Raid 5+1. Model ST9750420AS

Re: Non HP SATA SFF disks on DL380G5?

I don't believe there is a max LU size - HP cites 38TB max with 1TB drives - so 1TB drives are certainly supported.

V4E - consider this ST95005620AS - first hybrid drive from seagate, should by REALLY fast and still cheap.
