Not able to boot off of an external disk

Hi,

I have an HP DL 580 Gen 8. I have an LSI SAS pci card that I would like to use to boot

an external sas drive.  During power on, I do not see the option to go into the bios of the LSI

pci card.  I have a gen 7 and it ask during the power on to hit control S to get into the LSI controller and I am able to go in and enable the "boot" option. Not sure why the gen 8 does not work like the gen 7.

Any clues?

Re: Not able to boot off of an external disk

UPDATE...

Never got it to work on the Gen8.  It does work on Gen7 and Gen9

HP pretty much states it is not their problem since LSI cards are no

longer the type of cards they test during production.  Not the reply I wanted to hear......

Re: Not able to boot off of an external disk

The DL580Gen8 was the first Proliant that uses UEFI mode.

Dou you boot in UEFI mode?

You can't see messages from option cards in this mode, you need to try to get the utilities by press F9 and go to the utilities menu. In the manual boot menu (F11) you can maybe see the disk.

Is the external disk an UEFI bootable disk?

Otherwise you can try legacy boot mode.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.
