Odd issue with ML350 G5

Hey, All

This is an odd issue I was facing this morning and I do not know what kind of explanation I could provide. So decide to post here for advice.

One of my server lost connect last night and when I was in front of server this morning, I saw the message that Attempt to boot from NIC, like screenshot 1. Once the DHCP timed out, it will loop back to the option screen, like screenshot 2. It was just keep doing the loop...

I tried to change the boot sequence but still can not change anyting. I finally had the courage to power the server down completely and power it up. Luckily, server boots and windows loads...

What is wrong? Please advise.

Thanks,

To understand what happened, start by looking at the IML entries and the Windows event logs. Login to the serverтАЩs iLO, at the left hand side click тАШIMLтАЩ. This will list all the IML entries. This should let you know what happened at a broader sense.

Re: Odd issue with ML350 G5

I've once had the same happen to me with a blade server. Had to force-power it off (press and hold) - after boot it couldn't find the system disk (but logical drive and controller was found) and it was just looping through the 'try-to-find OS' process.

After another reboot the server booted just fine.

Where to look if IML only mentions the power reset?

Re: Odd issue with ML350 G5

We do not have iLO configured on that server yet...

I guess we do not have any IML recorded, right?

You can add ilo while the server is running

Re: Odd issue with ML350 G5

That is correct however we would like to have a window so we can also do another reboot to see what happens.
