I Recieved a proliant DL 180 G5, with the follwing.
5x300gb Hard drives.
1 xP400 controller (1 cable included)
1 on board sata controller.
so i have sucessfully connected the p400 controller, too 2 Hard disk, which are Mirrored, and which are running server 2003 R2 Sp2. this is all working fine.
my issue is that when i try to configure the onboard controller, to create an array of the last 3 disk, well its just not seeing the disks. i have had a look under the bios, and the Hard disks are not showing up here.
so im just wondering if
its possible to run the onboard sata controller in conjunction with the p400?
Or should the suppliers have supplied a 2nd cable to connect the 2nd p400 port to the back plane that houses the remaining disk?
(hope that makes sense?)
Any suggestions welcomed.

Re: On board sata issue with a Proliant DL 180 G5

Re: On board sata issue with a Proliant DL 180 G5
thanks for that reply. im trying to source the correct cable for that now.
is it possible though to run both the onboard with the P400 controllers?
also having a hard time locating the correct cable based on the part number / spare part number thats on the cable. is there a Hp website that we can search based on the part number?
Thanks.

Re: On board sata issue with a Proliant DL 180 G5
2. cable number
nternal SAS/SATA Cable 464830-B21
NOTE: If selecting more than 4 hard drives or if using SAS hard drives a Smart Array controller is required and two SAS/SATA cables.

Re: On board sata issue with a Proliant DL 180 G5
Thanks for the suggesgtions. i have that part ordered and should hopefully get it shortly.
just to go back to the embedded controller, i want to try and get it working, just for my own sanity.
so heres some more details, maybe somebody will spot something.
DL 180G5
Rom ID:019
Rom Revision: 10/02/2008. (tried to flash this but it was the most up to date version)
Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2
ich9r sata controller(not working) & P400 (working)
3 x 3ooGB (PN 417190-004) Hard Disks connected to on Board controller (not being picked up)
2 x 300Gb Hard Disks connected to P400 (working fine)
Under Hard disk configuration, Advanced, my settings are.
Sata controller 1 [enhanced]
Configure controller 1 as [IDE]
Sata controller 2 [Enhanced]
boots ok - this is the one im currently using.
i Tested the following settings..
Sata controller 1 [RAid]
Max ports on sata controller [4 ports] (Greyed out)
Sata controller 2 [Enhanced]
Boots ok, at bootup stage, it gives the F8 prompt to set up the embedded array conrtoller, but when entering here, there are no hard disk found.
upon logging on to Server though it picked up a raid controller. installed drivers for this, but its still not seeing
it in bios.
any body got any ideas id like to hear from them
Thanks
Damien

Re: On board sata issue with a Proliant DL 180 G5
the HArd disks the came supplied with the DL 180 G5 are actually SAS controllers.
To use the embedded controller they need to be SATA?
is this correct?

Re: On board sata issue with a Proliant DL 180 G5
will have to speak to the suppliers.
they sent 3 of these, with sas HD, and the embedded controllers....no wonder we are pulling our hair out!
thanks again.
