P410i RAID controller Problem

Hi ,

I am with a HP proliant DL380G6 with p410i controller and 8 Disks.

The requirement is to create 3 raid volume as below

1 volume using disk 1 and disk 2 as 1+0
2 volume using disk 3 and disk 4 as 1+0
3 volume using disk 5,6,7,8 as raid 1

using the RAID controller utlility ,i can only create 2 voulmes. I have tried with smart start utility, but it is also allow me to create two volumes.

Is there any way to achive this configuration

Helps needed

Thanks in advance

Re: P410i RAID controller Problem

How much cache is there on the controller?

Re: P410i RAID controller Problem

I mean on the controller there is an ability to put extra cache on the controller, with this controller you can put 256 or 512mb cache on it with or without an extra BBWC battery.

The limitations of creating multiple logical volumes depends on this.

In other words, you cant create more then two logical volumes without cache on the controller.

Re: P410i RAID controller Problem

well..its pretty obvious that you dont have cache as you can only create two logical volumes. I think you can see it during the boot of the server, not sure if you can see it in the ACU without having BBCW battery.
You can also open up the server and look on the systemboard, the controller is integrated so if there is not an optional memory card in the mainboard there is no cache.

I have attached a video where you can see the battery removed from the cache, this is the only video I have where you can see the battery being removed from the cache module.
This is the cache module youre looking for.

Re: P410i RAID controller Problem

If all disks are of the same size and type I would go for raid 10 and create 3 partition.
Will probably also perform better.

Re: P410i RAID controller Problem

Hi, i checked my server with reference with the provided video.

The proposed slot is free , there is no cache memory present on the slot.

So, Do i clear that with out this cache memory
we can only create 2 raid volumes ?
