P410i and P410 in the same server

The POST on my DL380 shows two controllers a P410 with 512 cache and a P410i. I think a mistake was made when ordering the server. Can I move the cache to the P410i and/or move all the drives to the P410 (with 512mb)?

It depends upon your specific system configuration.

Did you look here:

http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/servers/proliantstorage/arraycontrollers/index.html

It eludes to the same part for the P400/400i 512mb cache module? So moving the cache may work, but why would you want to do this? How many drives and sizes? Which model of DL380? etc...

If you have the DL380G6 with 2 drive cages (16 disks slots) and you have disks in both cages you need both controllers. Otherwise, yes you can move the cache upgrade to one controller.

I just read you other post about the 380G6 using the virtual media to install. If this is the server, how many drives did you buy?

Re: P410i and P410 in the same server

I purchased 10 146 SAS drives.

I used 8 on the expansion bay using the P410 with cache, and the other on the internal bays.

Re: P410i and P410 in the same server

You should keep both raid controllers for better i/o. Ensure that each controller is wired to each of the drive cages. You should buy the cache upgrade for the controller that needs it. You have to bind the drives into array groups depending on the number of storage areas you need and what kind performance and capacity you require for each area.
