P600 Controller Battery Failure

Hi everyone. I checked the HP management homepage on my DL380 G4 and it said accelerator on my P600 controller is temporarily disabled because the battery has failed. I called HP and they sent me a new battery. Here is where I am confused. There are two batteries on the card, one in the lower right corner of the card itself with a little metal bar across it, and one that is attached to a memory chip that is inserted into a slot on the card. I assume the memory chip is the accelerator. Maybe I am wrong. The new battery they sent me says
3.6V Ni-MH Battery pack
HP Spares# 307132-001
HP Part# 274779-001
I need someone to help me figure out which battery I need to replace. There were no installation instructions with the new battery.
Thanks for the help.

Re: P600 Controller Battery Failure

I dont think there is a way to confirm it.
Better swap it with one battery.
restart... check if SMH reports failure... if so... replace it with the 2nd one...

Re: P600 Controller Battery Failure

Ya right Karlo,
But U missed out the main point.
It does not say "WHICH BATTERY OUT OF THE TWO in the controller?"

the video also talks about replacing the SAS controller.. not the battery.

Also, http://docs.hp.com/en/9315/sap600.pdf

Page 23,24 & 25 Talks about the same.
Notice page 25, point# 5.... it says "Replace whichever Battery is degraded"/

Re: P600 Controller Battery Failure

Corbin,

Run the Array Diagnostic Utility which should be able to identify the failed battery pack. It's reported as battery 1 or battery 2. Battery 1 is on the cache module (Compaq called them accelerators, hence the message).

The lower battery pack (battery 2) at the bottom of the card is a backup pack.
There should also be messages in the IML so check with the IML viewer (Start-Programs-HP system tools- IML viewer).
The system event log will also have reference to the battery failure, normally the source will be "Storage Agents".

See attached P600 user guide for assistance.

If you don't have ADU, download it from here.
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/27531.html

Generate an ADU report and attach it to a reply if you are still unsure.

I hope this helps.

Re: P600 Controller Battery Failure

Thanks Brian. ADU showed that it was the main cache battery. I replaced the battery and am back in business. Thanks for the help.
