P840 Raid Controller not seeing new drives

I have a DL380 Gen9 w/ a P840 raid controller.

I have 3 arrays

1 Mirrored pair for OS

1 Raid 10 made up of 6x SSD

1 Raid 5 made up of 4x SAS

I needed more space on the raid 5 so I got a NVMe kit and it took over all the data from the Raid 10.

Took the 6x Raid 10 drives out, deleted the array and put 4x more of the SAS drives in.

The system will NOT see the new drives.  I've tried everything I can think of (including trying it in bios) and am stumped.

Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Re: P840 Raid Controller not seeing new drives

found this https://techlibrary.hpe.com/docs/iss/shared/troubleshoot/232976.htm

did all those steps, no difference.

Only indication I have these drives are even there is the spinning amber ball on the front of the drive cage.  HP says that's a bad drive.  IDK why 4 new (used) drives would all be bad...

use HP SSA software to check and read P840 Raid Card info and error message

Re: P840 Raid Controller not seeing new drives

Hello,

I would suggested verify the hard disk backplane to SA P840 cable connectivity first.

Update SA P840 firmware, if the cable connectivity is OK.

Verify the hard disk status in the SSA.

Let me know if the issue still persist.

Sorry, not sure what you mean by verify status in SSA.  Are you talking about the CLI interface?

I've already verified that the slots are working with another drive.  Firmware is all up to date.

Hello,

I would suggest, you have to log a proper case with HPE, and share the appropriate logs for further analysis.

Sadly HP wants more for to answer a question than a new server would cost.

Re: P840 Raid Controller not seeing new drives

I returned the 4 drives and got some other used ones and they worked right away.  IDK what was wrong with those drives, but the system would not recognize them.
