PCI Cards and HP DL380 G7.

Hi guys,

We have a new DL380 G7 server that a client wants to install two PCI cards into. The cards are

"SPEED 4 LE HD, 4-port low profile Universal 3.3v/5v PCI Serial card with S tandard bracket, DB9 fan out cable, 921Kbps, ESD protection to 15Kv. Low profile bracket included."

So a standard PCI card, but the server has PCI-Express slots. Can I install these cards in this server or do I need to get the client to buy new cards?

Thanks in advance

Dave

Re: PCI Cards and HP DL380 G7.

Hello, see the quickspecs:

http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/13595_na/13595_na.html

There is a riser with PCI-x

1 PCI-X (133MHz) 64-bit N/A 7 Full length, Full Height

Note that just because the card/fit - the card may not work in the HP server (because they have not been tested by HP). You should check with the manufacturer of the cards to see if they work in the HP servers.

I would advise them to get new cards.

Re: PCI Cards and HP DL380 G7.

There is a very important note in the quickspecs:

"NOTE: PCI-X support is limited to PCI-X cards only."

So, as already suggested, you should advise your client to obtain new cards. Unless what those cards do is particularly obscure, I would think there would be a PCIe version.
