PCI riser cage for DL385 G5 Server?

I wan to add a "374654-B21 HP Single Channel Ultra320 SCSI Host Bus Adapter G2" to my server "459800-421 HP PROLIANT DL385 G5 2347HE 1.9GHZ QUAD CORE ENTRY"

Since there is no spare PCI port in my server, I was told to buy a PCI riser cage.

I would like to make sure which is the correct part number of riser cage that I need to buy?

Re: PCI riser cage for DL385 G5 Server?

You can get a fast, authoritative answer for questions like this in HP QuickSpecs:
http://www.hp.com/go/quickspecs

Direct link for DL385 G5:

You're apparently looking for a Mixed Riser Cage Option Kit (PCI-E/PCI-X), part number 410570-B21.

Re: PCI riser cage for DL385 G5 Server?

Thanks for that info.

The 410570-B21 Mixed Riser Cage Option Kit (PCI-E/PCI-X) looks little costlier for me.

Is this "464271-B21 HP 2 Slot x16/x4 DL385G5 225W Riser" suitable for my SCSI card and server?

I would get the PCIe only riser kit. PCI-X controllers will disappear in a few years. You will find more PCIe controllers and need the extra slots.

Re: PCI riser cage for DL385 G5 Server?

The "464271-B21 HP 2 Slot x16/x4 DL385G5 225W Riser" contains only PCI-E slots. (It would allow you to install a high-performance graphics card to a DL385G5 server, should you have such a requirement.)

Please see the expansion slots tables in the Standard Features section of the QuickSpecs document I linked above: only the 410570-B21 riser offers any PCI-X slots at all.

PCI-E cannot take regular PCI cards, PCI-X can. Your 374654-B21 card *cannot* be plugged into the 464271-B21 riser.

The only way to connect your 374654-B21 card to your server would be to use the 410570-B21 riser.

An alternative would be to find a PCI-E SCSI card, like 412911-B21. It requires only a x4 PCI-E slot, so any slot in a DL385 G5 equipped with the default riser can take the card. It might well be cheaper to buy it than the riser for your existing PCI SCSI card.

Re: PCI riser cage for DL385 G5 Server?

I ordered a 410570-B21 and received 408788-001 which I hope is correct you can see the picture here http://quickfiles.net/img/408788-001.JPG

Now I would like to know how to fix it, should we fix it to an existing PCI port?
