PDU - selecting the correct one

Hi,

Please can someone clairfy how ones select an appropriate PDU for an HP rack.

I recently configured a rack with 5 ML570s with no additional redundant power with an MSA1000. I used a PDU part number 252663-B24 - Modular mPDU, 16A, High Volt, (2 x 8 extension blocks)) - we are in a 240V power supply country.

A query has now arisen if I should not have rather configured a Modular PDU.40A(Hardwired)(1 Unit + 3x8 C13, 1x4 C19 Extension bar), because the Prolient ML570 has an rated input current of 7.6A, hence multiple ML570s will require more than 16A

If anybody can advise I would appreciate it.

Thankd
Andrew

Re: PDU - selecting the correct one

Andrew:

What about 2 16A HV PDU's? It really comes down to whether or not you can support 1 40AMp hardwired circuit, or if you can afford to put in 2 16 amp circuits, or even 3 or 4 for redundancy (when/if the time comes).

Both PDU's will/should work with an HP rack. Having a single PDU will require less wiring where as having multiple PDU's might provide better power stability/redundancy.

Also, that 7.6Amps for the ML570 sounds kind of high for 240 volts. Is that the correct value or is that for 110 volts? I have not checked the spec sheet, but probably will right after I post this. ;o)

Look towards the bottom if you have not seen this yet.

Looks like the Input for a fully loaded ML570 is 4.2A at 240 volts, 2.7A for ase server.
