PL 6500 7 Msg: 1620-Locked SCSI bus detected.

Any one seen this one on a Proliant 6500 (PPC)before?

On boot - just after the CPU's have been initialised, I get the error:

1620-Locked SCSI bus detected
Verify SCSI bus cabling.
System halted.

I've disconnected & removed all scsi devices & cables from the box, but still get this message...

Also checked & re-checked all connectors in the box, all seem ok?

Any ideas welcomed!

Cheers.

Re: PL 6500 7 Msg: 1620-Locked SCSI bus detected.

Hi, first of all: Whenever i saw a message like that, there really was a cabling or device problem.
What you can do: Check SCSI-cabling again. Change cable if possible. Change terminator if possible. If there is a DLT or DAT-device connected, try without this device.

Re: PL 6500 7 Msg: 1620-Locked SCSI bus detected.

Sigi,

I agree, in my experience it HAS always been cabling... this is why I'm stumped here...

I've tried 3 different SCSI cables between the IO Board & the Drive Cage... It's a straight connection to the "C" SCSI bus - I've also tried to the "A" SCSI bus.

Also:
I've removed the Cable to the DLT drive.
I've removed the Cable from the IO board to the Drive Cage completely.

Still the same error???

Re: PL 6500 7 Msg: 1620-Locked SCSI bus detected.

hi,

if there is not any SCSI-cable connected, the system produces an error message, that's what i saw when i tried with my old PL800.

You can test this: Connect just one drive directly to the SCSI-cable, put a terminator at the end of the cable, do not connect the drive cage. If this works, maybe the backplane of your drivecage is defective?

good luck!

Re: PL 6500 7 Msg: 1620-Locked SCSI bus detected.

Sigi,

Tried your suggestions:

Connected a single drive directly to a SCSI cable from the IO board (with a terminator on the end of the cable of course)

Still getting the 1620-Locked error message...

I can't find any reference to the 1620-Locked error message on the Web, - do you have any idea where I could look?

Thanks!

Re: PL 6500 7 Msg: 1620-Locked SCSI bus detected.

Hello,
Please try the following:

Reseat the pass thru board on the back of the drive cage.

Sunil,

The pass-thru board is not installed.

Thanks

Re: PL 6500 7 Msg: 1620-Locked SCSI bus detected.

Hi,again...

I found this reference to the error message in the Troubleshooting guide:

Message:
1620-Locked SCSI Bus Detected.
Verify SCSI bus cabling.
System halted.

Description:
SCSI bus failure
detected.

Action:
Ensure that the integrated SCSI
controller has SCSI termination
attached.

I also found this note in the Setup guide:

IMPORTANT: Remove the factory cable number 199606-005 from the
Integrated SCSI controller if the controller is not used to control any internal SCSI
devices. Leaving this cable connected to an internal SCSI bus could interfere with
proper SCSI bus termination.

I have removed the SCSI cable from the board - there is NOTHING on the SCSI bus...

Does anyone know if there is a way to disable the on-board SCSI controller?

Thanks.
