PL1600 hard drive choice?

I have won 2 servers from my company auction
1- PII 6/400 512 64 us dual proc.
2SL controller-512mb ram
1- PIII 6/600 512 128 us single proc.
smart array 221 controller 512mb ram

Both units have no hard drives.I scoured the quik specs for the choices and now i'm really confused.Does the contoller decide the hard drive choices or does the onboard contoller decide the hard drive choice?
Any help please and where can i get hard drives cheap cheap cheap? thanx

Old beige Drives use cage like (caged made for 3, 4 or 5 Drives)

Thanx for the very useful info, but I'm still a little confused as to which hard drives I can use, wide,ultrawide,scsiII, scsiIII? Quik specs says that the integrated controller ia a dual channel wide-ultra scsi III controller, does my storage controller card installed revert it back to wide ultra II,1ch.? What is my best option for drive speeds, 7.2k or 10k rpm? Is there much performance gain in the different speeds?
