Packet sizes

Does anyone know what the "Maximum Physical Receive Packet Size" should be set to? The default is 4224 but the correct setting for an Ethernet packet is 1524. I've read that for Intel or Compaq (same thing?) NICs this should be set to 2048. Does anyone agree?
