Part# for the Non-Hot Swap SATA drive caddy

I would highly appreciate it if somebody could help me to find part number for the Non-Hot Swap SATA caddies.

I'm planning to use ML150 G5 server as a storage for my digital slide archive. Using original HP drives would very costly, it's just not an option with my current budget.

While caddies for the Hot Swap SATA drives are widely available for a very reasonable price, I could not find neither part number nor a vendor for the Non-Hot Swap caddies.

Re: Part# for the Non-Hot Swap SATA drive caddy

Gary Antonio Benavides M,

Thank you very much for your prompt reply, but I probably should formulate my request more clearly.

I don't need caddies with drives, I'm looking for the blank caddies/trays/frames, you name it, in order to use third party hard drives.

This issue has been discussed here many times. Using third party drives saves you a lot of money not mentioning 5 years warranty from disk manufacturer instead of one year from HP.

Yes, you will possibly have issues with the HP support configuring server this way, but I know what I'm doing and I'm OK with the all consequences.

Technically speaking, it's not a big deal to install drives without caddies, just some extra work that requires minimum skills and few cheap items from the closest Home Depot.

Anyway, caddies for the non hot-swappable disks have very simple design and should be less expensive than their "hot swap" counterparts.

So, it's just up to HP, I won't be surprised if they refuse to sell me blank caddies even if I provide a valid part number.

Re: Part# for the Non-Hot Swap SATA drive caddy

There is not a spare part number for blank caddies/trays/frames, HP doesn't sell this trays. You might get a third party tray, but it might not fit into the bay. There is a Hot-pluggable hard drive blank part number 413960-001, but this is just for the empty slots.

Re: Part# for the Non-Hot Swap SATA drive caddy

Karlo,

I'm afraid 373211-001 stands for the hot-swap caddy. I attached the picture of the not hot-swap caddy and it should definitely have a part number, HP just doesn't sell it directly to the customers, only to dealers.

Re: Part# for the Non-Hot Swap SATA drive caddy

Hi,

Would it not be possible for longer screws simply to go far enough down into the bare drives (without a casing) to hold them in place? Your diagram shows screws above and below the non hotplug backplane. The drives will have screw holes at the top and bottom which match these locations on the backplane. Perhaps you don't need the casings.

Sorry if this sounds stupid.

Brian,

You're right, no rocket science required, a little bit longer screws and may be a couple of washers would do the trick.
