Partitioning the system partition

Partitioning the system partition

We are using SmartStart 5.3 in Assisted Mode; we are trying to partition the system partition with a 6GB NTFS partition. When the operating system finishes loading we notice that the system partition is showing up as a 4GB FAT partition. Is this by design or are we doing something wrong?

Re: Partitioning the system partition

Windows 2000 does not impose any restriction on the size of the system/boot partition because it can format the partition using the FAT file system (up to 2 gigabytes, or GB), the FAT32 file system (up to 32 GB) or the NTFS file system (up to 2 terabytes) before copying the Setup files.

Note: If the Logical drive you are installing Windows 2000 to is connected to a SMART array controller, Create only one logical disk on the boot controller with any size system partition (up to 8 GB).

If using two (or more) logical disks on the boot controller, the system partition MUST be less than 4 GB.

Note: If smartstart does not allow a partition size smaller than a certain size (e.g. 5GB), reducing the amount of RAM in the server may fix.

Re: Partitioning the system partition

If your hard disks are connected to a RAID Array Controller, then when using ACU to configure the RAID set, on the page that we create Logical Drive, click on the Advanced Button, select Enable maximum 8GB boot partition, then when installed Windows 2000, it will allow you to have a system partition all the way to 8GB.
