Please Help

I am very new to servers. I just bought a proliant 3000 dual pIII 500 server. It came with no OS and I need to set it up. How do I configure the raid array? I dont know what all the specs are, I have 4 9.1gig wide ultra 10k rpm hard drives. I also have windows server 2003. This is all for testing. I am trying to learn as much as I can. Please help. Can you also tell me how I can get specific specs for this model? It seems there are allot of different configurations on this type of server. Thanks in advance for all your help

By far the easiest way to set up you ProLaint Server is with a Smart Start CD. You can purchase one from HP from here:

You need to ask for an get Smart Start 5.50. Do not order any other version of SmartStart (such as 7.xx) as they are not usable with this server.

Until then, to ease you into this server, can you provide me with an "Inspect Report" of your system with this SoftPAQ:

You will need one diskette to make this. Boot from this disk and save the inspect report to a text file on the diskette. Then you can post the file here for review. This will give a listing of what is in the server (i.e., RAID controller and what bios versions are loaded)

You can also set this server into a diagnostics to make sure everything is working ok.

Looks good. Dual PIII 500 4 9.1GB drives and 256MB RAM.
The bios is already up to date.

You do not have a Smart Array Controller. So, you do not have a hardware RAID to configure.
Do you intend to install hardware RIAD or will you use the O/S to do software RAID?

If you are going to use the O/S to handle the RAID, here is a SoftPAQ that you can use in leiu of the SmartStart CD:

You will need 4 diskettes.
